Round Up Walk for Down Syndrome 2011

The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Today, the NDSS Buddy Walks as well as the Step Up for Down Syndrome and other independent walks typically take place during October. Support groups organize walks at the local level by parent support groups, schools, and other organizations and individuals.

The walk is one mile long in which anyone can participate without special training. It is a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome.

Families Exploring Down Syndrome loves to throw parties and theme them. This year’s walk “The Round Up Walk for Down Syndrome” was a huge success thanks to efforts of our many volunteers, sponsors, members and participants. We estimate that we had between 1000 and 1200 individuals at the event. From the weather to the venue, the day of the event couldn’t have been better if we ordered it.

The funds raised from this year’s Round-Up Walk, allows Families Exploring Down Syndrome to continue to contribute to the community and provide programs and services to our members.
