Need Help?

Do you feel that some people don't know what to say, or not say, to you? Some new parents have told us that it was really helpful to be able to print and hand out our Tips for Family & Friends.

Valuable Parent-to-Parent peer contacts are available to offer you understanding, support, and encouragement. To make this uniquely reassuring connection, e-mail us at FEDSyndrome@aol.com

Our New Parent Packets contain a wealth of information to help you right now, and in the future. If your hospital did not give you our packet, please e-mail your request to FEDSyndrome@aol.com, and we'll send one to you.

Join us at a meeting, and bring your baby. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) building at 44001 Garfield Rd. (just south of M-59). Check the FEDS Calendar for room and time.

A Special Message for New Parents

Welcome to Our World,

Whether you are a more experienced or a first-time parent, we congratulate you on the birth of your new baby and we welcome you to Families Exploring Down Syndrome.

Many of us have been in your shoes and many will come after you. We are here to support you, to answer your questions and to help you make this the most positive parenting experience it can be.

As parents who have been where you are right now, we would like you to remember one thing as you travel this new and challenging path that has been laid before you. We would like you to remember that first and foremost your new child is, indeed, a baby needing all the cuddles and cooing that you have to give. Your newborn needs to be loved and cared for, just like any other baby.

Over time you will learn that nothing you did caused your new baby to have an extra chromosome, and that everything you do as a nurturing parent will help your child become the best he or she can be. So give your little one time to grow, and you will soon find yourself excited and eager to share your child's accomplishments and learning experiences. In the meantime, we are here to listen, to support and to help. Most of all we are looking forward to sharing in the wonderful joys that await you and your family.

WELCOME!
