Changing Lives Program
The Changing Lives: Down Syndrome & the Health Care Professional Program is designed
to educate physicians, nurses, genetic counselors and other health care professionals on the clinical and
developmental needs of people with Down syndrome. The Changing Lives Program was developed by the National
Down Syndrome Society (www.ndss.org) for affiliate groups
like ours to present to the professionals in facilities like yours.
Our Changing Lives Program will…
- Educate professionals on the medical and developmental needs of people with Down syndrome and the
best-care practices to address them.
- Prepare professionals to deliver diagnoses and other sensitive information.
- Provide information on local and national resources.
- Supply materials and information for new and expectant parents.
- Foster on-going relationships between professionals and parents.
Families Exploring Down Syndrome began presenting the Changing Lives Program in November, 2003 and we welcome the
opportunity to present to your staff. Our program requires an hour of your staff's in-service time, a room, VCR,
and a table to set up for a light lunch for the attendees. Along with the presentation, we will leave copies of the Health
Care Professional videos, brochures, health care professional information portfolios, Down Syndrome Health Care Guidelines
brochures, and other material as well as local resources and new parent packets for your patients.
We welcome inquires to the facilities that we have serviced.
If you or your facility would like to inquire or make arrangements for a Changing Lives presentation, please contact
Lucy Talbot, Changing Lives Program Director, at 586-977-8027 or e-mail
