Bocce Ball
Noun 1. bocce - Italian bowling played on a long narrow dirt court. (bocci, boccie) bowling - a game in which balls are rolled at an object or group of objects with the aim of knocking them over or moving them
The FEDS Bocce league began in the fall of 2006 following an invitation from the Venetian Club (www.clubvenetian.com) manager and FEDS member, Bill Marchiori.
Mr. Marchiori informed us that there were three Bocce Courts within
their facility and suggested we might want to start a league of young adults from the group.
With that in mind, we contacted the Special Olympics for their Bocce training schedule and athletes from 12 to 99 who might be interested in forming a league.
Thus the league was formed with 18 athletes.
The league runs every other Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00p.m., from October to May. All athletes are invited to compete in the Area 14 county games in May. The top players are then invited to compete at the Special Olympic State Games in Traverse city in June.
The players pay to play and FEDS has a rental contract with the Club. Extra funds supply the athletes with team shirts and other necessities (Pizza night at the summer games)!
The International Order of Alhambra generously supports FEDS and Special Olympics through donations and valued support. We thank them for believing in our Athletes.
